1. Scope and parties
These terms apply to rentals made on the Rentora service (rentora.fi) the renter and the owner . The rental agreement is made solely between these two when the booking is confirmed.
VMH Group Oy (Rentora) is not a party to the rental agreement. Rentora only provides a technical platform for listings, communication and payment processing. Rentora does not own, inspect, hand over, insure or guarantee the items for rent, and is not responsible for the obligations, actions, solvency or information provided by the renter or the owner. All claims related to a rental must be made against the other party, not Rentora.
In the listing, the owner can provide additional terms, which supplement these terms. If an additional term conflicts with these terms or mandatory law, the law takes precedence, then these terms.
2. Rental period, pickup and return
- The rental period is the period confirmed in the booking. Pickup and return times are agreed via Rentora messages.
- The parties inspect the item together at pickup and return. It's a good idea to photograph the item and any defects and send the photos in Rentora messages as evidence of its condition.
- The renter returns the item at the agreed time, to the agreed place and in the same condition as received, allowing for normal wear and tear. The item is returned clean and with the same fuel or charge level as at pickup, unless otherwise agreed.
- If the owner does not hand over the item as agreed, the renter has the right to cancel the booking and get back the amount paid through Rentora.
3. Use
- The renter uses the item carefully, in accordance with its intended purpose and instructions for use, and at their own risk.
- The item may not be sublet, handed over to a third party without the owner's permission, taken abroad without permission or used for illegal activities.
- Vehicles and trailers: the driver must hold a valid driving licence required for the item. The renter is responsible for traffic offences, parking fines, road tolls and similar charges incurred during the rental period.
- The renter informs the owner without delay of any defect that prevents safe use and does not continue using a defective item.
4. Damage, loss and liability between the parties
- The renter is responsible for the item during the rental period and compensates the owner for damage caused by negligence or use contrary to instructions, as well as for loss or theft of the item, unless the damage is due to a defect in the item or a circumstance beyond the renter's control. Normal wear and tear is not damage.
- Damage, loss or theft must be reported to the owner immediately and, if necessary, to the police or the insurance company.
- Compensation is limited to the cost of repairing the item or, if repair is not economical, the item's fair value at the time of damage. On request, the owner must provide an account of the damage and costs.
- Excess: if an excess is stated in the listing, the renter's liability for any single damage, loss or theft is limited to the amount of the excess. The limit does not apply to damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, to use contrary to the item's instructions or prohibited use (section 3), to driving under the influence, or to charges arising from late returns or fines.
- The owner is responsible for the item being safe, working and as described in the listing at handover, and for a vehicle having statutory motor liability insurance. The owner is liable for damage caused by defects in the item.
- Each party is responsible for any insurance they need. No insurance or guarantee is provided through Rentora.
5. Deposit
If a deposit is stated in the listing, the deposit and how it is paid are agreed between the parties at pickup. The deposit is returned without delay once the item has been returned in the agreed condition. Only a justified and itemised portion of the deposit may be withheld to cover damage or agreed additional rent. Rentora does not handle or hold deposits.
6. Late returns
If the renter cannot return the item as agreed, they must request an extension in Rentora before the rental period ends. The extension is valid once the owner has accepted it and it has been paid. If the item is returned later than agreed without an extension, the renter pays the owner the daily rent stated in the listing for each started day of delay, plus any demonstrable damage caused by the delay. The owner can report the late return in Rentora within 14 days of the end of the rental period. Rentora reviews the report, and the renter agrees that an approved late fee is charged to the card used to pay for the booking.
7. Cancellations and payments
- Payment for the booking is made through Rentora. Payment must not be requested or made outside the service.
- Rentora holds the renter's payment until the end of the rental period and pays the rent out to the owner about a day after the return time. If the item is not handed over as agreed, the renter gets the full payment back.
- The owner chooses cancellation terms for the listing (flexible, moderate or strict), which are shown on the listing and in the booking. If the renter cancels a paid booking, the rent is refunded according to the chosen cancellation terms; the delivery fee is refunded if the cancellation is made before the rental period starts, and Rentora's service fees only if the cancellation is free of charge.
- If the owner cancels the booking, the renter is refunded all payments.
- The Rentora service fee and any one-off identity verification fee are part of the renter's payment and are shown before payment.
- Repeated or unjustified cancellations may lead to your account being closed.
Prices and VAT
Listed prices are total prices. If the owner is a VAT-registered business, prices include VAT and the owner will provide a VAT breakdown on request. Rent from a private individual or a business not in the VAT register does not include VAT. The owner type is shown on the listing. The owner is responsible for their own taxes and for reporting their income. The Rentora service fee includes VAT, and its seller is VMH Group Oy.
8. Exclusion of Rentora's liability
As Rentora is not a party to the rental agreement, Rentora is not liable to the extent permitted by law for any damage or loss related to a rental, such as the item's condition, defects, use, damage, loss, personal injury or property damage, late returns, cancellations, payments between the parties or deposits. The parties agree not to make claims against Rentora based on the other party's actions or the rented item, and to compensate Rentora for costs incurred from such third-party claims. More on liability in terms of use.
9. Disputes
The parties resolve disputes between themselves, primarily via Rentora messages so that the conversation is kept as evidence. Rentora may, at its discretion, assist in providing information, but is not obliged to resolve the dispute and does not act as a representative of either party. A consumer may refer a dispute with a business to the Consumer Disputes Board. The agreement is governed by Finnish law.
10. Acceptance
The renter accepts these terms and any additional terms of the owner when making a booking. The owner accepts them when publishing a listing. The accepted version of the terms and the time are saved with the booking.
